How to Combine Oversized T-Shirts
Practical guide for using oversized T-shirts with proportion, layers, and neutral colors without losing structure.
The oversized T-shirt works when it looks intentional, not when it seems like the wrong size. The difference is in the proportion: an oversized top needs balance in the rest of the outfit.
At OLC, we think of the oversized T-shirt as a comfortable base for city life, travel, and calm days. It has presence, breathes better, and allows freedom of movement, but it should be combined with care to maintain a clean aesthetic.
Start with the length. A good oversized T-shirt can fall below the waist, but it shouldn't cover the entire silhouette. If the fit is too loose on shoulders and chest, it works better with straight pants, side pockets of understated lines, relaxed mix-and-matches or slim-fitting shorts.
The second key is color. Black, brown, gray, sand, olive, and earth tones make the shirt easier to repeat. When the color is neutral, you can play with texture, fabric weight, or accessories without overwhelming the result.
For a daily outfit, use an oversized T-shirt with straight slim-fit pants and simple sneakers. For a more urban look, add a light blazer or an open sweater. For hot weather, combine it with well-cut shorts and avoid too many visual elements.
Also important is the neckline. A firm neckline helps the garment maintain structure. If the fabric has good body, the shirt looks more cared for and less neglected.
Avoid combining width with excess in all layers. If you use a very wide shirt, make sure the jacket falls cleanly. If the pants are also wide, keep neutral colors so that the outfit looks thought out.
An oversized T-shirt from OLC should feel like an essential piece: comfortable, durable, versatile, and easy to wear many times. It's not about chasing a trend but finding a silhouette that complements your rhythm.
The final rule is simple: if the garment gives you freedom, combine it with what you already have and keep its shape after multiple uses, it deserves a place in your minimalist wardrobe.
